“Sky Worm” is a solo show featuring wooden sculptures by Justin Ortiz.
Justin’s cherry reliefs were made specifically for the greenhouse and dwell between sprouting pumpkins under late July morning sunlight like talismans. Bodies are carved as canyon-like landscapes, rocky and dry just like around Los Angeles where Justin lives. This body of work takes inspiration from the Atlantic Palolo, a marine worm whose breeding period mysteriously aligns with phases of the moon. Like Justin’s paintings, these sculptures explore the unconscious psyche and animalistic expressions of sexuality.
